Why should action verbs be used in writing a resume?

26 December 2022 By papmall®

The most pressing reason you should use action verbs is that they clearly and precisely describe what you can do. They help pique the hiring manager's interest in your resume by presenting a more edgy and proactive connotation.

To discuss your work experience, you can use words that have the same meaning but different emotional properties and are appropriate for each part of the resume.

Instead of using the word "lead," emphasize the meaning by using the words “chair”, “spearhead”, or “oversee”. Instead of repeating the phrase "responsible for", replace it with “streamline”, “navigate”, “execute”, and so on. There will always be powerful words that have a closer meaning to your experience.

That said, these verbs will lose their impact if overused. Recruiters will notice that you are "trying too hard" and will not identify the element you want to emphasize. Instead of cramming a lot of "heavy" words, freelance resume-writing services use action verbs deliberately with a reasonable frequency. The best way is to limit the number of action verbs in a sentence to 1-2.
