What is an example of affiliate marketing?

Amazon’s Affiliate Marketing is a great example of an affiliate marketing model:

Amazon Associates, Amazon's affiliate marketing program, is one of the world's largest affiliate marketing programs. Creators, publishers, and bloggers join up to have Amazon items and services featured on their websites or apps in exchange for income for sales generated by their sites.

Amazon has stringent requirements for the sites and applications that carry its adverts. Sites, for example, must not contain duplicated content from another site or author and must be open to the public. Websites must be active, with current content, and meet Amazon's standards. They must not, for example, contain vulgar or offensive information, incite violent or unlawful conduct, or contain any content that is regarded as damaging to others.

Approval is conditional on a thorough assessment by Amazon staff and the achievement of a qualified sales quota (three within 180 days of the application). If an application is rejected, it will not be considered again. Once approved, earnings are made when site visitors purchase Amazon products or services.

For eligible sales, Amazon Associates can earn up to 20% commission. Rates are set and determined by product and program categories. Amazon also provides special commissions on select events.
