Can I add freelance work to my resume?

Absolutely! Freelance projects in your CV are great ways to add in experience and soft skills such as time management skill, negotiation skill, problem-solving skill, and more. And you know how to find your partners, and efficiently work with them.

Indeed, the CV must include a freelance job to affirm to the employer that you are versatile. In this part we will show you How to add your freelance job to the CV with these 2 steps:

1. List down your relevant freelance work

Your Resume design should include the dates of your self-employment and your job title. The freelance projects which are relevant to your desired position in your CV will provide employers more reasons to see the potential in you.

If you have a lot of experience, choose jobs and positions that are suitable for recruitment needs. For example, with the content writer position, freelance projects such as writing or translating will be great to impress employers. Or with a graphic design position, practical projects involving designing or motion graphics tasks would be ideal options.

2. Highlight your impressive projects and clients

When adding your freelance work experience to the resume design, highlight those skills and practical projects that can help you make a strong impression on recruiters. Also, the name of the big clients that you used to work with will help raise your reliability in front of the recruiter as well. In order to do that, there are two things you should remember:

  • First thing: After briefing your freelance work to your resume, focus on a few important clients and the projects you worked on with them. Introduce the client's name or specialty and the year(s) you worked with them using subheadings. List your major projects and client successes below in bullet points.
  • Second thing: Using subheadings to separate your skills. If you work as a freelance writer, for instance, you might want to categorize your skills according to the kinds of writing you perform, such as blog articles, editing, and site copy. Bullet highlights your accomplishments (and clients, if you'd like) for each ability beneath your headers.

Make sure to highlight the names of clients and projects that are relevant to the position you are looking for. And don’t forget to remove any unrelated work as it will distract employers while scanning your resume.
