Sales is a complex and multifaceted field, and there are many factors that can contribute to success. However, if we had to narrow it down to the three most important things in sales, they would be:

1. Empathy.

Empathy is the first skill that any freelance sales representative must possess. People come and go in a retail store and only want a quick answer - which is what you offer. Since you show them the way or a minor problem on the side, you don't really need to have empathy.

However, if you want to sell something meaningful, you need to connect with your customers on a deeper level. When a potential customer comes to you, how can you understand their needs and provide the best solution if you do not listen and empathize with them?

2. Product knowledge.

Poor sales may result from failure to distinguish your product/service from similar ones. Just providing generic information doesn't help but puts customers off. You must instill in your prospects a desire to buy the product right away, which only happens when you comprehend how your sales service can help customers like no other.

3. Effective feedback management.

There is a lot of fuss these days about handling customer feedback. Positive, negative, and other types of customer feedback exist, and we must improvise in each case. However, do more than fulfill your responsibilities; you must also handle them with diplomacy and credibility. This skill is not inherent to people but takes time to master.

Of course, there are many other important factors in sales, including product knowledge, effective communication, and negotiation skills. However, building strong relationships, understanding the customer's needs, and demonstrating value are three of the most fundamental and essential aspects of successful sales.
